FAMILY REUNION 2009!!!Now that Family Reunion 2004, 200th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration has been completed, it is time to start thinking about where to go in 2009. It has been a USA family tradition to hold such a gathering every five years. We sure want to also invite any of our Helling relatives who may be able to attend. Suggestions for the next site follow.

REUNION ’04 -- NOW GONE!Can you imagine thinking that meeting with 280 relatives on a remote island off the southwest coast of Norway would be a wonderful summer vacation? Well indeed it was for those of us meeting on Svanøy, our namesake place of origin, celebrating the 200th jubilee anniversary of when our forefather, Ole Torjussen Helling bought the place and took the name for his own. How thrilling also to meet many of the descendents of Tolleiv Torjussen Helling, Ole’s brother, who stayed back on the Helling farm in Ål, and then a week later to actually visit that farm still owned by Hellings. |

REUNION -- THE TIME HAS COME!The Grand Jubilee Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the purchase of Svanøy by Ole Torjussen Helling begins in just a few days culminating 5 years of anticipation and at least 3 years of diligent planning. For those of us who have never been there, it should be an unbelievable experience. |
